9Cr18Mo belongs to the national standard high carbon high chromium martensitic stainless steel.
9Cr18Mo is a high carbon chromium stainless steel used for manufacturing bearing rings and rolling elements. It is used for stainless cutting tools, shearing tools, surgical blades, high wear-resistant equipment parts, etc. 9Cr18 is a high carbon chromium martensitic stainless bearing steel. It has high hardness and wear resistance after quenching, and good dimensional stability at high and low temperatures. The characteristics and applications of 9Cr18Mo are basically the same as those of 9Cr18 steel, but it has higher hardness and tempering stability after quenching, and molybdenum can enhance the passivation effect of stainless steel. The applications of 9Cr18 and 9Cr18Mo high carbon chromium stainless steel balls: suitable for manufacturing bearings in corrosive media such as seawater, river water, nitric acid, steam, and marine environments, such as bearings in ships, submersible pump components, bearings in petroleum and chemical machinery, and bearings in navigation instruments.
Mechanical Properties
Hardness: Annealed, ≤255HB; Quenched and Tempered, ≥55HRC
9Cr18Mo Heat Treatment
Heat treatment specifications and metallographic structure: Heat treatment specifications: 1) Annealing, 800~920℃ slow cooling; 2) Quenching, 1000~1050℃ oil cooling; 3) Tempering, 200~300℃ oil, air cooling. Metallographic structure: The structure is characterized by martensite. Delivery condition: Generally delivered in heat-treated condition, with the type of heat treatment specified in the contract; if not specified, delivered in non-heat-treated condition.
9Cr18Mo Characteristics
Higher hardness and moderate wear resistance. Its disadvantage during grinding is that it has a high stickiness and heats up quickly.
9Cr18Mo Applications
Suitable for corrosion-resistant (magnetic) tableware (knives), turbine blades. After quenching, it has higher hardness than 440A steel (magnetic), suitable for knife edges, pipe mouths, valves, rulers, and tableware (scissors).
9Cr18Mo Processing
When processing 9Cr18Mo steel plates, it is important to maintain a stable processing temperature and appropriate cutting speed to avoid excessive heating or cutting speed that could lead to a decrease in material hardness or deformation. Additionally, attention should be paid to lubrication and cooling during the processing to ensure processing quality and surface finish of the steel plates. If processing is indeed difficult, the material hardness can be appropriately increased to 22-26HRC to reduce material stickiness.
